my PI’s is a computer scientist and another one is from medicine. He’s a radiologist. You can easily access the sources who work in the medical school. I can easily collaborate with people. Would you have liked to be a doctor? I actually I like what I’m doing now. I like working on the medical data. I love math and working on machine learning. So you have the ideal job. Yeah. Do you want to spend your whole career in research? Yeah, so far I have only done research. What do you like about research so much? First of all, I have freedom. I like working on developing new technologies to solve medical problems. I think the best part is developing new technologies. Maybe you can do it in industry, but, I think, it doesn’t give you that much opportunity and freedom. Have some of your research already developed into a real-world application? Yes: since I’m working on clinical data, here, we only present 3-Tesla to 7-Tesla harmonization. I also work on the multi- site scan harmonization. We created big data, and eventually, we started to analyze the lifespan curves of the patients versus the normal controls and their differences. In practice, I can apply this approach to the real clinical data. What is the next thing that you will bring to the real world? I think I will keep working on diffusion MRI and exploring the applications that are applicable to diffusion MRI. I’m also quite interested in the clinical applications. Before coming to the United States, I was only developing the methods from the very common databases. I’d like to develop applications for clinical databases. How are you able to concentrate on things which are very difficult for the average person? What is your trick? I don’t have any trick, but I like math. I like working on it. It’s like a hobby to me. You have to like it, otherwise, it’s really hard to do these problems and develop methods. For instance, since the deep learning became more popular, I got very excited! [laughs] You like it so much that it’s normal for you to concentrate. Yeah, I like working a lot on machine learning. When deep learning became very popular, I expended some of my personal time to learn it because I like working on machine learning and developing some methods.
