MICCAI 2020 Daily - Tuesday

3 Natasha Lepore 19 Natasha Lepore is an Associate Professor at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and at The University of Southern California. Natasha, tell us about your work in Los Angeles. I work in medical imaging, mostly in pediatrics. We try to understand children’s brains, mostly using MRI. I like studying problems in pediatrics because helping children has a lot of impact over the lifespan. They are also more challenging because the brain is much more complex in children than in adults. I interviewed a scientist, Sandrine De Ribaupierre, who studies that exact field of pediatric neurosurgery. At that point she was looking into fetus brain. Yes, in fact one of the other PIs in my lab, Dr. Vidya Rajagopalan, also specializes in fetal brains. What do you hope to achieve in the future that you cannot do now? There is a lot of software being developed in our lab and others. Startups are beginning to use some of the software. For children, in particular, there is a need for clinical software to improve quantification. We, in fact, have already set up a startup to help “I like this complicated path!” DAILY Tu e s d a y
