2 Summary Wo en in Computer Vision 34 At which university in Tunisia did you study? The National Engineering School of Sfax Can you tel l us one of the differences between studying in France and in Tunisia? I cannot say there is much of a di fference studying in France versus Tunisia. The education language is the same. The subjects are the same. I did some teaching here in France at the University of Rouen. I found that computer science courses are pretty much simi lar. Maybe the di fference is the national ity of people. There are many national ities from di fferent backgrounds, di fferent states, and di fferent places in the world. In Tunisia, almost al l of the students are Tunisian with some African students. So the culture di fference between the students in France was real ly interesting and enriching for me. It ’s so nice to feature you in our magazine: after Aïcha BenTayeb , you are our second Tunisian guest! Can you tel l us something about Tunisia that we don’t know? Tunisia is a very nice place to visit. This we know. I have been there several times, and I adore it! Something that you don’t know is Rawia Mhiri is a senior computer vision engineer at Samsung NEXT, the innovation group within Samsung. Can you tel l us about your work leading up to Samsung NEXT? I graduated from school in Tunisia in 2011. Then I did an internship in computer vision about lane detection. After that, I did a PhD in computer vision with the LITIS Laboratory at INSA Rouen in France. In my PhD, I focused on visual odometry and structure for motion for autonomous vehicle appl ications. How did you get to do something so remarkable? I did my engineering internship with LITIS Laboratory. Then they proposed that I take another research engineering position with them. After that, I decided to do a PhD in the same area of computer vision: autonomous vehicles. We chose the subject together.
