Computer Vision News - August 2019

China, saw a 70% growth in submission papers. The expansion of conferences like MIDL and MICCAI demonstrates that this field continues to grow larger and generates more interest. BTW, Computer Vision News will be at MICCAI for the fourth consecutive year to publish the MICCAI Daily magazine. Tom explains another surprise for him at MIDL2019: “Obviously, we were focused on this year. We set out a MIDL goal about how to organize in the coming years. We have already picked a place in Montreal for next year. We also had a call for 2021. We found out that we already received seven proposals”. The organizers have yet to determine the location for MIDL2021. Looking ahead for next year, organizers plan a three-day conference for 700 people in Montreal, 6-8 July 2020. Although MIDL2019 attracted attendees from China, India and North America, so far MIDL has only taken place in Europe. It started in Amsterdam before moving to London. Next year, they expect it to become truly international by bringing the conference to another continent. Organizers have already started discussing changes and improvements for next year and ask for feedback from the community. If the community believes we should do it in one way or the other, they should reach out and give us feedback!” Ben tells us how: “It’s a young conference. If we want this to be a successful event that works for the majority of people, we invite everyone to send us feedback. This year, we changed the way we had the orals. We had long orals for 18 minutes. We had so-called spotlights, three minutes, very short talks. This can all change. If the community believes we should do it in one way or the other, they should reach out and give us feedback!” MIDL 2019 35
