Computer Vision News - October 2018

Daily Wednesday Well, I always liked to make things. I liked the software. I wanted to be a lawyer before, but I liked the software because I felt it has more of an impact. So instead of fighting with other lawyers, you fight with code? Yea, and you reach so many people through software. I wasn’t going to do research, but then I was at NYU doing my undergrad in computer science and math with Rob Fergus. I was going to work at Goldman-Sachs, but then he changed my mind. I was kind of already getting tired with just software engineering. Then Rob introduced me to research, and it was so exciting so I decided to go to grad school. How did he convince you? He made me read three papers, one of which was Alyosha’s, and it was really cool. I really liked it. So Alyosha was there since the beginning in some way. You have been living in New York, Japan, and California. Yes, and my graduate school was at the University of Maryland. Tell me one good thing about each one of these places. Well, New York is amazing. It’s the best city. It’s so dense, and everything is so exciting. Japan? Food. The food is delicious. Which food do you miss from Japan? Everything!
