Computer Vision News - January 2017

Dear readers, First, on behalf of the RSIP Vision team, please let me wish you a happy and healthy 2017 . For us it has been an excellent 2016 : many projects led by RSIP Vision succeeded according to plan and sometimes even beyond our expectations, making it a year rich of both business and technical fulfilment. Much of the R&D background and implementation of our work can be seen in our blog , covering all of RSIP Vision’s application fields . If you didn’t check it out yet, I recommend you do; you will easily recognize how our expertise has brought us leadership in the industry. It has also been a year during which our company has taken an original communication initiative for the benefit of the algorithm developers community : feeling the lack of a computer vision magazine, we have decided to fill the gap by creating Computer Vision News. Ten months later, the results are a steadily growing readership and the high quality content that you can find in the pages of this January 2017 issue. The magazine is free and it requires a major, continued effort: we offer this contribution to our community with care and with utmost pleasure. This issue features an exclusive interview with Gabor Nagy , founder and developer of EQUINOX-3D . You will read also about the surprising contribution of Image Analysis to Internet of Things , the TUPAC16 Tumor Proliferation Assessment Challenge, a “magic” application called boomApp , a remarkable research project about detecting abnormal airway deformations in CT scans, a lively and energetic review of the Women in Machine Learning workshop (from NIPS) by Luisa Zintgraf . Our regular section “Women in Computer Vision” features another fascinating interview, this time with Professor Julia Schnabel , Chair in Computational Imaging at King’s College London . And all of our regular sections and news… Again, we wish you a wonderful year, with all that you wish!
