Computer Vision News - January 2017

As a company, boomApp claims competitive advantage because of their expertise in computer vision and machine learning. Both João and Nuno have worked in the field for at least 10 years. They understand the most state of the art technology and how to innovate even further. Prior to developing the app, they researched the market and realized that no one had developed an application that could track video with your smartphone. They were able to do it in a scalable and fast way even with poor quality images or videos captured by your phone. In João’s words: “ Some competitors focus more on comparing the same video, whereas we compare the original video with a footage of that video, getting very good results ”. As big fans of Steve Jobs , João and Nuno told us that they chose the app’s name based on an amazing YouTube video they came across (we have all reasons to suspect this was the vid ). In the video, Steve Jobs would use the word “ boom ” whenever he would make a point to the audience. For example, he’d say, “ Now I click this button, and boom, a window is open! ” or “ when I scroll down on my iPhone, boom, something appears ”. With that inspiration from Steve Jobs, they thought of how their app can, like magic, scan a video and “boom” give your results back. This is how an app which makes boom got the name boomApp .
