MIDL Vision 2021

can, I try to send my students abroad in my colleagues' labs. I’ve done this in Canada, in Chile, in Malaysia. What is your greatest dream, beyond becoming a professor? I have two teenage kids. Of course, some of my life goals are dedicated to them. I’m a teacher, so I spend a lot of time teaching them, even if they don’t want to [ laughs ]. I try to get them interested in a lot of fields, not only science. One of them is allergic to science. He likes history and politics, so I try to teach both kids many things in life, about arts and society. I am really a teacher inside my head. I am really fond of transmission. Whether it is for my students, for my kids, I’m always thinking about what I can bring to this young generation. It can be about science. It can be about what I experience. It is really an important part of my life. What is your message for the community? I’m given a voice! So I can only be grateful and try to use it! What I really appreciate, especially since we are all behind our computers these days, is to see more and more idea sharing, code sharing, data sharing in our field - machine learning and computer vision field - whether with social media, with blogs, with code repository. People are open minded. People are sharing. They don’t keep things for themselves. People spend time explaining in their blogs and papers. There are wonderful resources, and it will speed up the research. I am really grateful for that. I want to say to all the people doing that, keep on doing this! I am trying to do my part with my PhD students putting their code online. I am sharing my images. I don’t have time for blogs, sadly. If I were a young researcher today, like 20 years back, I would have done a blog. It’s a great way to share research! More than 100 inspiring interviews with successful Women in Computer Vision await for you in our archive! 23 VISION MIDL Caroline Petitjean
