MICCAI 2022 Daily – Tuesday

19 DAILY MICCAI Tuesday Sarina Thomas Sarina Thomas is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the DSB group at the University of Oslo and she is working for GE Vingmed Oslo on the project Echo AI funded by the Research Council of Norway. More than 100 inspiring interviews with successful Women in Science in our archive Sarina, what is GE Vingmed? It's a very large supplier of ultrasound devices. Specifically in Oslo, they have a very important location for building up their entire software and hardware. The Echo AI project focuses on automatic measurements in cardiac ultrasound, with the aim of assisting the cardiologists in their daily work or improving their life. What about you and Oslo? One year ago, I decided to move to Oslo after doing a postdoc at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. Nice, with Klaus Maier-Hein! Klaus is an old friend of our magazine, so I'll be very happy to mention him. What did you do after you finished your postdoc? Then I decided what could be the next step. So far I worked in the field of bone surgery, interventional, and radiology. Then, I wondered what could be next, whether I could switch applications. So then I decided to go into ultrasounds of the heart. You are not Norwegian. Yes, German. German from where? Close to Frankfurt, a very teeny, tiny, teeny little village, but doing my PhD in Heidelberg. Oh, you are a village girl? Yeah. You grew up between monkeys and cows?
