MICCAI 2021 Daily – Wednesday

22 DAILY MICCAI Wednesday MICCAI Clinical Day Nicolas Padoy is a professor at the University of Strasbourg and the Director of AI Research at IHU Strasbourg. He is also General Chair of CLINICCAI, the very first clinical day at MICCAI this year. He speaks to us ahead of today’s big event. CLINICCAI is dedicated to healthcare practitioners presenting and discussing their research, with a focus on translational and clinical methods associated with areas relevant to MICCAI. It is a venue for MICCAI attendees to come and see how clinicians translate their work but also to network and interact with them . “ It should be seen as a networking event between both communities, ” Nicolas tells us. “The goal of CLINICCAI is to attract clinicians to MICCAI but also to encourage much more interaction between clinicians and computer scientists, the traditional MICCAI attendees. ” Nassir Navab spoke to us some time ago about the importance of engineers and clinicians having an open dialogue , and this kind of event feels like a welcome step forward for both. “ That’s one of the reasons we are organizing CLINICCAI, ” Nicolas replies. “ At IHU Strasbourg , it’s part of our DNA to have a joint team of computer scientists and clinicians working together on a project. Those junior clinicians were already asking me, ‘How can we engage in MICCAI?’ I realised there was no event for them to present their work, so they had no reason to register and come. We created CLINICCAI for that reason. Conversely, it provides the regular MICCAI attendees with the possibility to get feedback from clinicians, who are invited to attend the other sessions for a discounted fee. ”
