26 A Letter from Daniel DAILY Wednesday We hope you are all enjoying MICCAI 2020 . Originally planned as a physical event in Lima, Peru , we turned the necessity for a virtual conference into an advantage for all scientists, who have the opportunity to interact more widely and have a broader impact on the scientific community. Of course, what we are missing is the wonderful Peruvian landscape, culture and society, including its mouth-watering cuisine and typically refreshing drinks. However, despite the distance between us all, I am very happy that we can bring Latin America to the MICCAI community through locally and universally cherished values, such as Fairness, Accessibility, Sustainability and Responsibility . Latin America has a strong cultural richness and diversity, a common language, common values, and common historical influences that have forged tight bonds between its people. The human potential is enormous, and the healthcare challenges and opportunities are tremendous. We have recovered some of our cultural losses this year by providing a local flavor through our brother-in-scientific arms: SIPAIM – the Latin American Society of Medical Information Processing and Analysis. SIPAIM 2020 was successfully organized as a special MICCAI satellite event , reaching more than 400 attendees and featuring outstanding speakers and startups from Latin America, as well as LatAm cultural events. We also opened the door to a future generation of technologies and entrepreneurs at the Startup Village and Elevator Pitch competition, organized for the first time at MICCAI . I would like to thank all the MICCAI 2020 actors, including Anne , Leo , Purang and Mauricio, for their full commitment to this major scientific event. They have supported me from my very first steps on this path. We hope that you are having an amazing scientific and social experience . We are all delighted to be a part of this multicultural education of the next generation of opinion leaders in our field!
