MICCAI 2020 Daily - Wednesday

Yenisel Plasencia-Calaña is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Data Science at the Brightlands Institute for Smart Society (BISS Institute) at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. She’s also Social Media co-Chair at MICCAI 2020. Yeni, what are you doing at MICCAI? I I’m helping with their social media, with their Twitter account. [laughs] I really like this community because they are using machine learning to improve medical decisions, to analyze medical images, and so on. I try to contribute to that. Your accent is not Dutch. Where do you come from originally? Dutch?! Not at all. I’m Cuban! I come from Cuba, and I have been in the Netherlands for one year for this position. Tell us about your work. What do you do? Right now, I work in this interdisciplinary institute. We work with a team of scientists, postdoctoral researchers and principal investigators from all the faculties of Maastricht University. We have principal investigators in the topics of ethics, law, data science, neuroscience, business and economics. The idea is that we want to bring data science to society that also takes into account ethics and law, to do data science in a responsible way. It’s really exciting “This is something that I truly value in society!” 2 Women in Science 18 DAILY Wednesday
