MICCAI 2018 Daily - Tuesday

the same time I was able to provide my computer science expertise to advance her research and help her reach her goals. It was mutually beneficial. I definitely gained more because of the success she had had in her career. She was one in a series of mentors that, as my interest changed and as my goals and plans in life changed, I found other mentors to move with me to help me reach my goals. There was another mentor who really helped me to establish myself at MICCAI after I worked with Etta Pisano. Elizabeth Bullitt, a neurosurgeon, was a frequent attendee at MICCAI and she and I joined and published many papers here. The mentorship program has existed here in many ways and now its practice is formalised. 17 Tuesday “They could just go around and find someone’s work that they are interested in and talk to them about it.” Mentorship Le Zhang, a PhD student from the University of Sheffield, is studying medical image analysis using deep learning. He is taking part in the MICCAI 2018 Mentoring Program. Le, you are a mentee as part of the Mentoring Program here at MICCAI 2018. What are your expectations? I want to know the new research area from my mentor’s work and maybe I can also have a collaboration with him in the future for my postdoc study after my PhD! At the conference, I hope to meet other members from the medical image analysis community and find out about new research areas that I can benefit from, both through hearing new information and through collaborations. How has the Mentoring Program been going so far? I started meeting with my mentor in Sheffield and we also had a short chat before the conference. I will be having a long meeting with my mentor here at the conference today. What would be your advice to other students who did not participate in this program? I know some students have no mentor in this program, but they could just go around and find someone’s work that they are interested in and talk to them about it. I think this is very easy for every one of us in our community.
