MICCAI 2016 Daily - Tuesday

When I look back and I see that I stuck to my path in this and that I was really doing my best, then that would give me joy. I don’t think that I would be happy if I do it and sacrifice my personal life, like not having a family. MICCAI Daily: What would make you change your mind in those two areas? Lena: It’s possible, but it’s hard for me to think of that as the case because now it is pretty clear what I want. MICCAI Daily: Would you like to teach and help others achieve their purpose? Lena: Yes, I love teaching. I’ve been doing it ever since I was doing my Bachelor’s. I was helping high school students. Now I teach Bachelor’s and Master’s students. I love to see a person in my class when they light up because they understood something. I think that’s really great. Working with Master’s students is a bit different because they are also doing their research. It’s also really interesting if you can really help them. I like teaching a lot. MICCAI Daily: If you weren’t a scientist, what would you be? Lena: I would either become a high school teacher or maybe I would go into the medical field because I was also interested in biology. Probably I wouldn’t stray far from science… [smiles] CVPR Daily: Thursday Women in Science 11 MICCAI Daily: Tuesday
