ISBI Daily - Saturday

ISBI DAILY Saturday 17 Samar Elsheikh They are truly an international group. Samar herself is Sudanese. She came to study in South Africa on a scholarship via the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) . They give African women the opportunity to pursue their PhD studies in countries like Brazil, China, Mauritius, and South Africa. Samar did her master’s at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) , where she met Alessandro and worked with her other course supervisor on a bioinformatics project. She goes on to say: “ That’s how I came to know about informatics and how I came to know that yes, that’s what I want to do. I want to incorporate statistics with programming and computer science. It’s challenging because I have to learn a lot of molecular biology and image analysis methods, but it’s doable .” Doable with a lot of success we hope! To find out more, visit Samar’s poster session today at 11:30-12:30 in the Ambassador Ballroom.
