ICCV Daily 2021 - Tuesday

Good morning ICCV! Welcome everybody virtually to Montréal and this first issue of ICCV Daily for 2021. ICCV and RSIP Vision (the editor of Computer Vision News ) have partnered once again to bring you the ICCV Daily every morning during the main conference. We wish we could have welcomed you to this wonderful city in person but being virtual hasn’t stopped us from putting together another action- packed event! In line with the rapid growth of AI and computer vision, 6,152 papers were submitted this year , which is about 1,800 more than ICCV 2019. 1,612 were accepted (26%), with 210 chosen as orals. Every paper has a video presentation, with a longer runtime for the orals, and each will be part of two interactive Q&A sessions . We all miss meeting up in person, and we will again, but virtual conferences do have their advantages. Hopping on a plane is a significant investment of resources for many people, so we can have a larger and more inclusive community this way, with a reduced carbon footprint! We know a common problem with these events is that authors often end up waiting alone in virtual rooms for someone to visit their poster, which is never fun. To solve this, we’ve used state-of-the-art neural language models to cluster groups of five papers into pods. In these pods, authors will be surrounded by their peers, which we hope will stimulate some rich discussion, and when participants visit, there’s still the option to break out into individual rooms if desired. We must say a word of thanks to our area chairs and reviewers . I can’t underscore enough how important this service is. For young researchers, it really is effort well spent in service of the community. This year, area chairs have also been rating reviewers: 73% met expectations and 18% exceeded . We’re going to be flagging some for distinctions in the opening address of the conference. We wish you all a successful ICCV 2021 and hope you enjoy reading this first edition of ICCV Daily.
