ECCV 2018 Daily - Tuesday

Laura Sevilla Daily Tuesday 11 Laura Sevilla is a visiting researcher at Facebook. Before joining Facebook, she was a postdoc at Perceiving Systems. In January, she will start a new position as a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. Laura, how did you get to this point in your career? Where should I start? Wherever you want. You’re in the driver’s seat now! When I was in high school, I took computer science. I didn’t even own a computer, but I took computer science in high school. I was like, “Oh! This is cool! I will learn how to program.” I thought this was the coolest thing. After that, I went to college, and I started computer science. I was really fascinated by artificial intelligence. By then, you had a computer. [ laughs ] By then, I had a computer. I got a computer in my last year of high school when I was 17. We had a compulsory class when I was in high school, and I think that was a fantastic thing. Everyone gets exposure that otherwise wouldn’t have been interested. What happened when you had a computer finally? Then I kept programming on my own. I was super interested. I was fascinated by AI. After that, I chose to do computer science. As a bachelor’s? Yes, exactly. Where? I studied in Spain at the University of Granada. Then I went one year abroad to Canada. I saw that it had all kinds of applications in medicine, whatever. Not Women in Computer Vision 12 “I found myself doing things that Michael does!”
