ECCV 2018 Daily - Monday

vision in Slovakia. There is a really small group so the Czech Republic was really a great option for me. It’s close to my family. But home will always be Slovakia? Of course, I have my family and friends in Slovakia. I visit them quite often. It’s just four hours by train. For me, Czech and Slovakia are like the same country. When I was a child, it was one country. Of course, officially we are not one country. You are now teaching. Do you feel more like a teacher or a researcher? Definitely more like a researcher. Actually, in my position, I am an assistant professor. I am a researcher, and I’m just teaching one subject per semester… definitely more like a researcher. So you prefer research over teaching? Why is that? Of course, I like teaching. I especially like teaching something that was created by me. Usually, I was teaching a subject to help someone else. Now, I really like research. That’s why I returned to academia. I spent two years as a postdoc at Microsoft. This was a great experience because this was still a research position. For me, I like the academic style of life. I like research and academia. Do you see yourself working as a researcher for your entire career? I like this work so hopefully. What would be your dream? Maybe have a small research group. As a researcher, what would you like to discover? I don’t know yet! What do you like the most about computer vision? Hmm... the most? I really like the fact that I’m using math in real applications in computer vision and robotics. This is really great for me. I’m not just solving polynomial equations. I really see the applications. I’m using this in many different applications, for 3D reconstructions, in robotics, for flying drones, This is, for me, really satisfying. I see people using my algorithms.
