It says, you guessed it, that automation can be a game- changer in breast imaging , both in quantity (volume of cases examined) and quality (providing an efficient diagnosis). What is the automation bias then? A group of researchers from Germany and the Netherlands found that inexperienced radiologists tend to rely more heavily on the automated system versus moderately and highly experienced radiologists. The latter were more disposed to challenge / verify the AI automated response . The result is that the automation bias may lead to missed breast cancer diagnosis and unnecessary recalls or biopsies.
