21 ICVSS 2022 in Sicily “ This year, there was a different vibe than usual. We had some third-year PhD students who had never had a poster session in person because of Covid . They were very, very happy to be there. We had two poster sessions at night, and one ended at 2 am! There was no way these guys were going home because they were too excited about being able to talk about their work with other students, which they had not been able to do in the past few years. ” Giovanni tellsushishighlights fromtheweek included the reading group with Stefano Soatto , for which speakers mentored students, and the essay competition led in academia, who stay together in a village, where they can get to know each other and establish connections. “ Networking is one of the most important parts of our school, ” Giovanni tells us. “ The students can interact and talk with the speakers anytime because everyone is in the same village. This makes the school different fromotherevents, likeconferences, where you don’t have as much time to talk in a friendly way because everyone stays in different places, and it’s difficult to catch up. ” Antonino adds:
