Workshop and Challenge 40 Figure from the PointGroup paper illustrates the challenges of 3D instance segmentation. Objects from the same semantic class adjacent to each other are hard to separate into distinct instances (e.g., compare P alone using just point coordinates, Q using predicted centers for object instances, with using both to better separate object instances). Angel Xuan Chang is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Simon Fraser University.
