How does a young scientist from Barcelona find herself in January 2020 in one of the coldest places in the world? Basically, when I grew up, Spain was in an economic crisis. All I could hear was there were no jobs in Spain, especially in research, especially in technology. You need to go away to find some jobs. I grew up with that idea in my head. I’m just going to go somewhere else. They’ll have more research and technology. Actually, I always liked English, international countries, and traveling. So that was nice. Why did you choose Sweden? I didn’t want to go real ly far away. I didn’t want to go to the USA or Asia because I wanted to be able to travel and see my fami ly. In Europe, I didn’t want to move to a southern country l ike Italy or Greece because it ’s l ike staying in Spain basical ly. Among the Nordic countries, Sweden was the most appeal ing to me. It ’s a nice culture, nice environment. It ’s cold, but everywhere is cold now. “If you put in the effort, you can find something specific to what you like and what you want to achieve” In Italy, we cal l this phenomenon “escaping brains”.
