2 Summary Artificial Intelligence 30 Computer Vision News has found great new stories, written somewhere else by somebody else. We share them with you, adding a short comment. Enjoy! A I S P O T L I G H T N E W S Computer model of face processing could reveal how the brain produces richly detailed visual representations so quickly. When we open our eyes, we immediately see our surroundings in great detail. The question is how the brain is able to form these richly detailed representations of the world so quickly and what new model of vision we can learn from it. Scientists at MIT decided to investigate the way we see and appraise all of the physical world and the result is a new model in the area of efficient inverse graphics (EIG): the idea is that when the brain receives visual input, it quickly performs a series of computations Why your brain is not a computer This lovely article by Matthew Cobb, a professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Manchester , advocates the exact opposite idea: Cobb suggests that the hypothesis that computer and brain follow similar processes might be a fallacious approach, which has led us astray all along. And in reality, we should not try to understand the one as a set of processes mimicking the way the other actually functions. What can we infer from that?
