2 Summary AI in Medical Imaging 1 In terms of the hardware, the endomicroscopic probes are part of Cellvizio , a system by Mauna Kea Technologies in Paris. For ultrasound, they use a Toshiba Aplio system . Both systems are used in the operating theatre. The team get data from their clinical collaborators, but at the same time, are building systems of their own in the Hamlyn Centre. For example, they have an in-house endomicroscopy system, which provides much more flexibility around the data. They can manipulate the data in real-time and make any modifications necessary for the image acquisition. The team have also built the first deep learning platform for the analysis of endomicroscopic data for tissue characterization. This platform can characterize the tissue using either one single frame or a series of frames and has achieved more than 95 per cent accuracy. They are aiming to classify two main tumor classes, meningioma and glioblastoma , which are the most common benign and malignant tumor classes respectively. Matina tells us about the navigation component of the NEURO platform: “The navigation part is challenging "We always need to keep translation in mind. We must build something that is ultimately useful for surgeons." S. Giannarou, M. Ye, G. Gras, K. Leibrandt, H. Marcus, G.-Z.
