Computer Vision News: Where were you born, Sophia? Sophia Bano: I was born in Islamabad, Pakistan. CVN: How was it for a technically oriented young girl to grow up in Islamabad? Sophia: In Islamabad, education of women is encouraged. In my case, my family was very supportive. They were always encouraging me and my siblings to pursue higher education. This new section, which we started with the CVPR Daily at CVPR 2016 , hopes to help mitigate the severe gender imbalance in the computer vision community by getting to know better some remarkable female scientists and their career paths.
