One of the main criteria for a talk was a will to give something to a community, not just promote oneself or one’s company. Only use cases, recent research and its application to different tasks on hands. Our speakers worked in Luxoft, Daqri, BAE Systems, DARPA, Geosynergy, and taught courses at the top universities. Computer Vision News: Why did you choose to organize a one-day only event? Daria: This is the first time that we organize this conference, so we wanted to start small and build the brand of the event gradually. This year we will have about 150 participants and 9 speakers arriving from 10 countries. The conference itself will indicate if we should run it every year and whether there is a need to change the format of the event. Nevertheless, we already see that there is a demand for such gatherings, since for every chosen participant there are 3 applications and sometimes we had really tough time selecting. Computer Vision News: Can you tell us any interesting story about the preparation of EECVC? Daria: Actually, we had some doubts over the use of the image of Lena in relation to the website. We wanted to add something interesting and very characteristic for the image processing community , so we used a standard test image widely utilized in the field of image processing, which is also a cropped image from an old Playboy cover. On one hand, this image could winnow people whose expertise is closely related to machine vision; on the other hand, we were afraid that it would be a bit controversial and could be wrongly interpreted by some female participants. At the end we risked using it on the website and promo materials and it was perceived well.
