The FBI's is Analyzing Tattoos With Computer Vision Did you think that surveillance cameras were breaking the ultimate barrier to our freedom? The Electronic Frontier Foundation has learned that the FBI is doing much more: first, their automated tattoo recognition employs algorithms that can identify people by their tattoos; even more importantly, the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) has started a program in 2014 for improving technology that can map connections between people with similarly themed tattoos or make inferences about people from their tattoos (e.g. political ideology, religious beliefs).
