Glazer makes it very clear that Nanit is not a medical device: it is a consumer product , though it has applications for telemedicine awaiting down the road. They are getting closer to 100% accuracy, though they are aware that the perfect number is quite out of reach. Still, they refuse to play on the fear factor: “ We’re not dealing with life or death! We’re dealing with information about parents who wake up during the night and all they think about is how to get back to sleep. Then they wake up during the morning and think about what they can improve for the day after. This is where Nanit comes into place. ” That is why Nanit simplifies things for parents and tries to optimize everything. Beta-testers say that they just see the information that they need. The image sensor is on the side of the crib. The image sensor fits exactly the right field of view that is needed. The system is placed at a specific height so that kids won’t be able to approach it when they stand. For the same safety concerns, also cables are out of the way. Nanit thought also at the 30% of parents that travel with the camera when they go to grandma's house or somewhere else. Thanks to an accessory called multi-stand , cameras actually detach from the mount and can be put on a dresser. They can also be used as a baby camera once the baby is going outside the crib. Down the road, it is obvious that many things can be done with this technology, not necessarily just with babies, but also with other aspects like health and wellness. They keep working with scientists about how to do it better than state-of-the-art or how to show behavioral change with parents. They also look into other phenomena such as collecting data to help with autism . Trying to set development milestones, they hope some day to catch an event on camera that has never been seen before. Let Glazer conclude with a very emotional story : “ We have a Facebook group for Nanit parents serving as beta-testers. One of the mothers told me that she had been waiting for a while to see her kid flip from side to side. She caught it for the first time with Nanit. She went to the physiotherapists and showed them the video. She’s so happy to have it and, thanks to Nanit, to keep tracking the development milestones of her kid. They were looking for it. In the video, you really see the kid flipping from side to side. It is so nice to hear that parents are very excited about the product! ” Computer Vision News Application 7 “We’re not dealing with life or death!” Application
