CVPR Daily - Thursday

community what they stand for. Will they stand with me or not? I think that is a very short answer. There is a long answer which stems from the fact that different institutions, even scientists and publishers and whatnot, don't always take a stand. Do you know what I mean? Sometimes people don't want to be political or involved in things that may be controversial, maybe for good reasons. I strongly feel, and I think many people share that, in this particular story, in this particular crisis that we are facing in Ukraine, there are just no two sides of the story, really. There's really just one huge tragedy unfolding. And also, it's really a crime from beginning to end, Picking a harder stance was important for me to really not just say we support Ukraine, but also to say we condemn the invasion. Let me say that the vote is still open today, Thursday. Voting ends at 6:00pm Central Time: our readers are still in time to vote. PAMI-TC motion 4. Vote yes! Right? Yes. What do you expect from the future? You're having a brilliant career. What do you wish for yourself in the next few years? I should grow up and become truly independent and move on eventually. I wouldn't be betting on when and where, but I hope to grow out of my current status. What do you want to do when you grow up? Goodness. Take good care and give advice to the next generation of computer vision researchers. If you didn’t choose this field, what other area would you have dedicated your work to? I think if it wasn't this it would be NLP. That's one direction. And the other, well, I'm quite passionate about applications for visually impaired users. So I would probably pursue some more application- driven tasks and problems towards that end. People have been far away for two years, and some people have done their first two CVPRs virtually. What is your message to our community? Let's build a good community. Let's be a community. I think sometimes maybe we don't value that enough. Let's really be a community that supports each other. It has been a difficult time for many and for many reasons. Right? Including the pandemic, obviously. I think having the support of your peers and having these conversations and engagement, even if it is virtual, I hope it still brings a positive spotlight.
