Daily CVPR - Monday

CVPR Daily: Maryam, where do you teach? Maryam: I am Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University in Computer Science. CVPR Daily: Can I ask why you chose to make a career in computer vision? Maryam: Actually, I started my undergrad as a civil engineer, and a special topic in civil engineering which is geomatics. I was always fascinated with working with satellite images so for my PhD, I did Computer Science and tried to work with all of the images. When I was in civil engineering, it was really much nicer than going to the field and doing measurements: you can do all of the measurements in the images. Instead of going to the field and working in the hot weather with all the bad environmental conditions, you can sit in your office and, by the way of object recognition, understand everything just the same as you could do in the field. CVPR Daily: This is what you like actually in this field? Maryam: Yes. 8 CVPR Daily: Monday Women in Computer Vision Maryam Rahnemoonfar
