Daily CVPR - Monday

Dear Reader, Welcome to CVPR 2016 in Las Vegas. This year's CVPR promises to be exciting in many ways; just to mention a few:  CVPR 2016 showcases the latest advancement in computer vision and deep learning, including exciting topics like large-scale video understanding or the budding field of visual question answering;  for the first time ever, CVPR 2016 features an industry expo with representatives from 100 companies in a trade-show like atmosphere ;  for the first time ever, despite the severe gender imbalance in the community, the organizing committee of CVPR 2016 is almost entirely female . And one more innovation -- for the first time ever, CVPR 2016 presents you with this CVPR Daily publication. It is brought to you by the online magazine Computer Vision News (published by RSIP Vision ). To read the new CVPR Daily, all you need to do is check your mailboxes every morning, Monday to Thursday. The mission is to put an additional spotlight on CVPR participants, presenters and exhibitors. Please note that although the Computer Vision News worked together with CVPR 2016 organizers to define what this Daily will be about, Computer Vision News is solely responsible of all editorial choices. As we embark on an exciting week full of technological innovation, we leave you with one final thought. Computer vision is going everywhere: it will be in our cars, our homes, our search engines, our hospitals. It will be used to assist the disabled, to do social analysis, to save lives, to increase food production. To fully achieve such broad and diverse impact, we will need to build an equally broad and diverse community of researchers: diverse in geographic origin, education, gender, race, socioeconomic background, life experiences, personal missions. During this week, we encourage you to ponder this deep social message. In what ways is your voice diverse in the CVPR community? In what ways can you further encourage a diverse range of thought and impact within our community? We wish you a very fruitful and successful CVPR 2016 and a very enjoyable reading of CVPR Daily.
